On Time

Large numbers fall in shadows

heart slamms against my ribcage

slow and rhythmical

but absent of music

dead

Tock

Tock

Tock

Deafening–

out of sound

into feeling

Synchronizing with

heartbeat

open mouth tastes dry dust of ages past

eons gone by muffled by wood

and

dull

ness

Despite the

under

water

feeling

This keeps me

rushing

rushing

rushing

To beat the clang,

escape the sound

race against the tolling bell

Life dictated

by nothing but this

This time

Patience not a virtue here

race against the tolling bell

and the deafening

Tock

Tock

Tock

  1. Beautiful poem. You made my heart race. “Tock tock tock.” Brilliant!

The tick-tock of time is palpable. You capture the essence of time very well in this poem. 🙂

  3. I like the tick of the clock-reemphasizing the fact the time never stops for anything. Great clockwork!
